Kundalini yoga is a powerful physical, mental, and spiritual discipline, and is the best yoga practice for developing strength, awareness, character, and consciousness. It is known as the yoga for awareness because it focuses on expanding our sensory system and strengthening our intuition, ultimately leading to a heightened spiritual awakening. The purpose of Kundalini yoga is to unlock our potential to remain steadfast in our values, speak our truth, and heal ourselves and others through compassion. It allows us to fully connect with our mind, body, and spirit by channelling our Kundalini energy that is within all of us. Our Kundalini energy is located way down the base of the spine, at the 4th vertebrae, and is activated through Asanas, breath work, meditation, and mantra, which enables our dormant Kundalini energy to rise up our spine through all of our chakras.
Kundalini yoga builds inner strength and resilience and allows us to navigate the challenges of life with poise, self-discipline, and mental clarity. Asanas - Kryias
Physical strength-building postures are known as Asanas which form a Kriya, or yoga set. Most Asanas are practiced with the eyes closed after instruction in order to channel inner energy and promote a spiritual connection within yourself. Asanas provide the power of understanding with respect to what is going on inside of us, ultimately creating a pathway to awakening our Kundalini energy.
Breathwork
In Kundalini yoga, we work with different pranayama exercises to restore optimal balance to our nervous system. In order to master the Asanas, we first need to master our breath, thus paving the way for mastery of our mind. The breathing patterns and exercises of Kundalini yoga give us the power to perceive, control, and regulate our breath with mindfulness and self-awareness.
Meditation & Mantra
Mantra and meditation in Kundalini yoga enable us to connect to our inner wisdom. The physical postures require mastery of breath work, and once mastered, a channel will be created that will allow us to receive essential spiritual guidance from our practice. The mantras we practice through meditation allow us to block out the outside world and tune into our bodies. All words carry frequencies, these mantras send positive vibrations to our brain, altering the brain’s chemistry. Through the power of meditation, we can reach a state in which we are guided to our innate wisdom.
